An ex-C.I.A. operative is brought back in on a very personal mission and finds himself pitted against his former pupil in a deadly game involving high level C.I.A. officials and the Russian President-elect.
In Lausanne, Switzerland, the retired CIA agent Peter Devereaux is visited by his former chief John Hanley that convinces him to extract the agent Natalia Ulanova from Russia. Natalia is the assistant of the Russian candidate for President Arkady Federov and has collected evidences of war crimes committed by the candidate during the Chechen War and requested Peter to help her. However, during the operation, CIA chief Perry Weinstein believes that Natalie has been captured by the Russians and orders agent David Mason to kill her. Natalie gives photos and the name Mira Filipova to Peter before dying and the agent informs Hanley. Peter kills the CIA agents, but when he sees Mason, he spares the agent that was trained by him. When Mason meets Weinstein, he learns that Peter and Natalie had a love affair in the past and the agent is assigned to kill him. Peter heads to Belgrade where he saves the social worker Alice Fournier that might know where Mira is from Federov's assassin Alexa and from Mason. Soon Peter learns dirty secrets about Arkady Federov and the CIA and has to flee with Alice to save their lives and expose the crimes to the world.
As you grow in age, you get tired of the same good vs. evil type of clichés. The movies where one guy survives an entire battalion, ten explosions, 4590 bullets miss him and everything he does is for good.<br/><br/>Now I&#39;m not saying that I want the villain to win but after a while, this type of movies are getting on my nerve and are insulting my IQ. <br/><br/>The November Man is somewhere in the middle. Is not a full cliché with the good guy surviving against all odds vs. the bad ones but it is not far away from that point either. In other words, we have ex Mr. Bond (which is NOT Bond here) going against the CIA, assassins and the like and in the end, even getting the girl. He is faster than everyone, he aims once and hits, everyone else is blind and so on.<br/><br/>Hollywood, maybe it is time to make your movies at least a bit realistic. Commando and Die Hard were fun, 10 - 20 years ago. Now there are things as character development and realism. <br/><br/>For a 15 year old who wants to see bad guys shot after playing too much Call of Duty at home, it will work just fine. For someone who actually wants to get an return on his 90 minutes and $10 ticket, no way. <br/><br/>Even if you want to see a good spy movie, just watch Skyfall or Casino Royale once again. Or watch Pierce&#39;s old movies. Without him as the lead character, this movie would have been a complete flop. And that&#39;s too bad, he&#39;s a good actor. I don&#39;t know why he is taking movies with such awful scripts though.
I am not Brosnan&#39;s biggest fan, but I have to say I enjoyed every minute of this.<br/><br/>The characters are interesting and believable and the plot has enough twists and turns to keep you intrigued. There are plenty of fights, shootouts and car chases to keep the action fan in me very happy without going over the top.<br/><br/>The pacing of the plot is well done, you are carried along with the characters and interested in finding out just what the hell is going on.<br/><br/>The lack of massive amounts of CGI in this is also a selling point. I like a good honest action scene.<br/><br/>Much better than some of its big budget overblown contemporaries.
Often frustrating and at times incomprehensible, the Bourne/Bond clone keeps the pulse racing but ultimately fails to satisfy.
